About Galway Arts Festival:
Now in its 36th year, the Galway Arts Festival will take place from Monday 15th to Sunday 28th July 2013. Highlights of the festival this year include the world premiere of Riverrun, adpated, performed and dirceted by Olwen Fouéré; the Irish premieres of Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre's Rite of Spring and Petrushka, both directed by Michael Keegan Dolan; Tom Vaughan-Lawlor in Howie the Rookie, First Thought Talks, the European premiere of new comedy play Stella & Lou, plus musical performances from Imelda May, Glen Hansard and Damien Dempsey, Josh Ritter and many more.

First ThoughtAbout First Thought:
Introduced to the programme in 2012,First Thought, a series of discussions, conversations and readings on creativity, takes place during Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July. The First Thought discussions will focus on a wide range of topics, from the creative use of public space to creativity in education and the diaspora, as well as the genius of young Irish creatives working in the digital world. Speakers at the First Thought talks include celebrated Irish playwright Enda Walsh, Professor Kevin Whelan from the University of Notre Dame, Jason Sullivan, creator of the Sminky Shorts animation series, Druid Theatre Company's Artistic Director Garry Hynes and her long-time collaborartor, actor Marie Mullen
